Dear Valued Travellers & Stake Holders

It has been a little over 2 months since the start of the lockdown regulations in South Africa. Our hearts and thoughts go out to those that have been affected by the COVID-19 virus and we appreciate the healthcare workers, local communities, and governments around the world who are on the front line working to contain this coronavirus.

Though it has been a tough time for the tourism and travel industry as a whole, we understand the reasons for the limitations on the movement of people, but we also look forward to the relaxation of restriction and the possibility of travel within the coming months.

With this in mind the Bayview Hotel would again like to assure you that the health and safety of our guests and our team members is always our foremost priority.  While the risk of contracting the virus in the local community remains low, we are working with the latest advice from South African medical authorities, as well as the World Health Organisation (WHO), regarding preventative and precautionary measures.

Highest hygiene

We have implemented enhanced cleaning and hygiene practices in accordance with the regulations and advisories as received from the South African government and the World Health Organization.

All common areas, as well as back-of-house, are frequently and thoroughly cleaned and disinfected to the most stringent standards, paying special attention to high touch-point areas, such as door handles, switches, counters etc. Enhanced safety protocols have also been implemented and all staff have been supplied with the relevant PPE to ensure not only their, but also your safety. Safety screening will be conducted on all persons wishing to enter the hotel and sanitizing procedures are in place to help mitigate the risks of guests entering the hotel.

And, of course, all guest rooms continue to be thoroughly cleaned and sanitised regularly, with our usual detailed attention to high touch-points such as telephone, handles, surfaces and remote controls. These practices include the use of an antibacterial cleaning product that reduces the risk of harmful viruses. After departure mattresses and curtains will be steamed and disinfected. All laundry items and towelling in the rooms gets stripped and washed at our onsite laundry facility.

Continually monitoring and updating

Our property will continue to monitor the health of team members and guests and we stand by ready to support anyone who develops symptoms requiring prompt medical attention, self-isolation and/or quarantine.

Our hotel will be working directly with local health authorities to ensure that we are vigilant and fully prepared to take additional preventive measures should circumstances indicate it being needed.

Book with confidence

Given the exceptional circumstances we currently face, we are offering extra flexibility and support for all bookings made directly through our website, email, or directly with the hotel. Additionally we have implemented a voucher system so that guests may book knowing that their booking can at any stage be converted to a voucher that is redeemable for the next 3 years.

Yours sincerely,
Andre de Jager

Introducing our new General Manager | André De Jager

The Bayview Hotel recently welcomed André de Jager, a seasoned Hospitality Manager, who has worked at some of the top hotels within South Africa including Protea Hotel Highveld, Protea Hotel Witbank, Capital Empire, and Capital on the Park. André brings with him a wealth of operational knowledge. He kicked off his Hospitality Career at Hatfield Manor in Pretoria as a Duty Manager. Over the next 10 years, he worked in several departments within the hospitality sector, from an Executive Sous Chef to a Rooms Division Manager and eventually to the position of General Manager, which gives him a great overall background on how the hospitality machine works. André has now taken the reins of the Bayview Hotel and its energetic and vibrant team eager to provide guests with an unforgettable experience.

Question: How long have you worked in the hospitality industry?
Answer: 10 years

Question: What made you decide to choose this as your profession?
Answer: I needed the human interaction that comes with hospitality as well as the changing environment, as every day brings a new challenge.

Question: What and where did you study after you matriculated?
Answer: I first studied Bookkeeping and worked as a bookkeeper for 4 years before realizing this was not the industry for me. There after I moved into hospitality and subsequently achieved qualifications in both Hospitality Management and Professional Cookery and Culinary Arts

Question: What are your comments about the services and newly refurbishes rooms at the Bayview Hotel?
Answer: With the refurbishment and planned move to a 4-star property in the next year it is set to fulfill a gap in the market that currently exists, for a 4-star quality yet affordable accommodation option for both local and international visitors. The longer term plans include some significant changes to the public areas of the hotel as well and will incorporate some needed services like, gym, pool, kid’s entertainment and a change of the restaurant to take it over to the next level.

Question: What is your personal vision for The Bayview Hotel?
Answer: My personal vision and goal for the hotel is to establish it as one of the premier hotel offerings within the Plettenberg bay market that can not only supply a welcome stop over for international tour groups but also a home away from home for local travelers looking for a comfortable and relaxing holiday experience.

Question: What are some of the aspects that set The Bayview Hotel apart from its competitors in Plettenberg Bay?
Answer: The fact that the rooms are large enough to have the addition 2 full size lounge chairs as well as a coffee table in, and without feeling small or cramped should speak volumes to the comfort and size of the rooms. The wonderful location of the hotel is also an amazing plus which some of the other hotel in the town do not have. Being situated in very popular main street promenade it is within walking distance from absolutely every amenity one might wish for, from restaurants to bars and take aways, shops for every need and 800m from the beach. All this while still being on the quieter end of the street means that the evenings can still provide a restful night’s sleep.

Question: What in your view, is the most challenging hurdles the tourism industry is facing post COVID-19 and how we can possibly address them?
Answer: The COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly permanently changed the face of tourism and travel. The challenge that the sector will face will be to adjust to this change in order to come up with new solutions to new challenges that he would face now. The restriction of travel that will likely be in place for some time to come still is also going to put pressure on the industry to run hotels and guest houses at much tighter margins with lower occupancies while still remaining profitable enough to ensure continuity.

Question: Why should people choose Plettenberg Bay as their holiday destination of choice?
Answer: Plettenberg Bay has remained one of the favorite holiday destinations for local and international travelers for many years and for good reason. It is a quaint town perched right on the edge of the hills, with the result that one has magnificent views of the sea from nearly everywhere in Plettenberg Bay. The tourism sector has also grown over the years in the surrounding areas around Plettenberg bay and as a result one has a myriad of activities that are available to enjoy, wheatear its nature, adrenaline, antiques, wine or sporting activities that peak your interest, we have it ALL.

Question: What do you do in your free time?
Answer: I am a lover of the outdoors and nature as well as being a busy with my hands, thus I spend my free time between activities like fishing, hunting, camping and recreational woodworking and tinkering around the house. And of course being an ex-chef I still have the love of making food.

André has brought new energy and focus to the team and we would like to wish him and the rest of the Bayview Hotel team the very best of luck for the challenges ahead.
